The History of Belt Buckles
Belt Buckles have had a place in history since the date of early man. Primitive belt buckles were fashioned out of Antler horns and carved bone and were used strictly for utillitarian purposes.
During the early Roman Empire as well as in China, the need for a stronger, more efficient belt fastener was needed. These were originally D or oval shaped, and pounded out of wrought iron. Eventually belt buckles became more ornate, thus becoming not only a necessity but a fashion accessory.
Belt buckles as we know them to be today were heavily influenced by the Civil War. Belt buckles were custom made by local silversmiths, adorned with images, encrusted with jewels, etc to create a statement.
Belt Buckles can be made out of a variety of materials such as nickel, brass, silver, gold, bone, iron, pewter, tin and zinc.
How to attach a belt buckle
1. You must first purchase or own a "removable belt buckle" belt. These belts will snap open one end so that you can remove the existing buckle.
*Note all of the belts that we carry here are "removable belt buckle" belts.
2. We recommend wearing the belt on your person to ensure that the buckle is facing the correct direction. If you are a male, the fastener end will be on you right side, if you are female, it will be on your left.
3. Remove the existing buckle. Slip the fastener end of the belt through the buckle loop of the belt buckle that you choose to use, then snap the snaps tightly.
4. The fastener on the blet buckle which can be a hook or a button then goes through the hole of the belt on the other end.
